The Design History Society Student Travel Award funded 7 days, 4 ferry journeys, 2 flights and numerous bus journeys in and around the Orkney and Shetland Islands, where I was able to study first-hand objects made by members of the Armed Forces during World War II.

In February 2017, the Design History Society held its inaugural panel as affiliate at the College Art Association conference in New York. The panel, titled 'Beyond Boundaries: Art and Design Exhibitions as Transnational Exchange from 1945', was co-chaired by Dr Harriet Atkinson (University of Brighton), Dr Sarah Lichtman (Parsons The New School), and Dr Verity Clarkson (University of Brighton).
