The one-day workshop 'Objects Matter: design education and learning through objects in the museum' was well attended and generated lots of pertinent discussions on object handling in design education, ethics of collecting, accessibility and availability of objects for teaching and learning, digital collections and decolonising the curriculum.
All three presenters Kirsten Hardie, Associate Professor at the Arts University Bournemouth; Zoƫ Hendon, Head of Collections at the Museum of Domestic Design & Architecture (MoDA) and David Houston, Learning Producer for Schools, the Design Museum, shared practical tips on bringing object based learning into the classroom. They also shared important insights into pedagogical theory, institutional structures and the curriculum, and finally, they brought exciting examples of objects for everyone to explore. The day also included a roundtable discussion, where participants shared their expertise.
