Head of Postgraduate Programme
We are looking for a new Head of Postgraduate Programme for ’The History of Design and Material Culture.’ Taught in conjunction with the Royal College of Art, this is the preeminent programme in the field and it is growing in connection with exciting developments at both Museum and College. Reporting to the Director of Research and Collections and working closely with the Head of Programme at the Royal College of Art, the new Head will provide leadership for teaching and learning, research, and management of the resources of the programme and staff.
The Head of Programme will have an international reputation as a researcher in the history of design and/or material culture. S/he will be able to produce research outputs eligible for inclusion in future research audits at a minimum of 3* quality level as defined in REF2014, and to lead, where appropriate, collaborative externally funded research projects.
S/he will have a commitment to and experience of collections-based research and teaching as well as developments in higher education in relevant disciplines. The work will involve a balance of management, teaching, research, and knowledge exchange opportunities that involve colleagues throughout the Museum and a range of partners in the universities and creative industries. The successful candidate will lead on the development of new pathways in history of photography and the material cultures of performance. S/he will also show commitment and initiative in the recruitment of students, particularly in the effort (at both institutions) to raise the proportion of overseas students and the expansion of the Research Student culture in the programme.
This a fixed term position for five years.
The interview date will be week commencing 23 January 2017.
The deadline for applications is 9th January 2017
