Assistant Professor of Design History

The Department of Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Design History.

This full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position will have a 3-3 teaching expectation.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate expertise and experience in:

Expanding the canon of interior design history;

Critically auditing design history curricula with the goal of incorporating and expanding instructional methods and research tools to foster diversity, equity and inclusion;

Leading study abroad experiences; and

Working across design and art disciplines.

Qualifications include:

Ph. D in Art History, Design History, Material Culture or complementary/adjacent fields;

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU;

Two years of college/university experience teaching design history across undergraduate and graduate levels;

Evidence of a national/international scholarly record; and

Evidence of undergraduate and graduate research stewardship.
