The California State University, Sacramento is looking for an Assistant Professor of Design Studies with the following specifications:


Essential Duties:

- Teach lecture and seminar classes with a concentration on design history and theory.
- Contribute to the ongoing administrative tasks of running the Design Department and, as the first tenure track professor in the Design Studies program, play a central role in student advising, recruitment and mentoring of part-time faculty, course development and scheduling and other related activities.
- Service and contributions to the Department of Design and the University through participation in Department, College, and University level committees and organizations
- Ongoing commitment in service and contributions to the local and regional community

Required Qualifications:

• Masters in design studies, art history, architecture history or a related field


Special Knowledge and Abilities:
• Demonstrated knowledge of Western and non-Western design history and theory
• Demonstrated ability to teach the history and theory of multiple design fields (e.g. architecture, photography, graphic design, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:


• PhD in design studies, art history, architecture history or a related field
• College or university level teaching experience in lecture and seminar classes
• Experience working with students and colleagues of diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Experience in curriculum development
